The movie’s storyline is very complicated. Even Leonardo told in an interview he could not grasp the plot of the movie completely the first time he was told.

This movie is my all time favorite. Yes, it took a while to completely understand the scientific facts and concepts shown in the movie. But once you do, you will realize how good this movie is for enhancing your critical thinking.
It makes you want to think and wonder about outer space. It makes you realize how powerful and big universe is.
The cinematography and visual effects are stunning, and combined with Hans Zimmer’s score makes for a very visually satisfying and emotional movie.
3. Donnie Darko(2001)
You just cannot not think after watching this movie. Every time you see this movie, a new question is raised.
This movie really forces you to think about morals and idea of playing God.
This movies is famous for lighting as a powerful tool for emphasizing various scenes.
4. Being John Malkovich
Some might call it confusing but that’s the whole point of critical thinking movies. There are certain hints hidden in these movies that you have to use to come up with what actually happened.
The most shocking and delightful scene is when a terrified Malkovich turns to the only friend he can trust and the last person you’d expect.

First of all, this movie is visually enchanting.

Although, this movie could have topped this list but I didn’t want to scare some people here.
This movie is more than 10 years old and if you haven’t watched this and want to watch it now, you will understand why I am calling it a little scary.
And no it’s not a horror movie.
This movie basically tells about how just a mere handshake led to a possible extinction of the entire species. The fact that we are in a deadly pandemic right now makes me really scared.
How Steven Soderbergh knew what’s going to happen!?
With a jaw clenching plot and high paranoia, this movie is a must watch for people with a strong heart because this might not be the best time to watch.
7. Shutter island
Here comes Leonardo again. One of his best movies, hands down.
The depth and the psychology involved in this movie left me thinking for days. To truly understand this movie, you need more than a single watch.
That is why it is one of the best movies to watch to improve your critical thinking.
8. The Matrix (1999)
This movie stars Keanu Reeves. So my suggestion is if you haven’t watched this already, please do. It has Keanu Reeves for God’s sake!
A wonderfully directed movie depicting a dystopic future leaves us stunned. It shows that the reality perceived by most humans is actually a simulated reality.
A mind boggling movie but definitely a must watch.
